Method

  • Each NRC unit is joined by hand to an OpenStreetMap record by plant name.
  • State is set by hand. NRC location text names the nearest city, which can be in another state. Hope Creek, for example, is listed as near Wilmington, DE, and it is in New Jersey.
  • Status comes only from which NRC list a site is on, never from OpenStreetMap.
  • location is null where the extract has no matching record, as for Fermi, Point Beach and Turkey Point.
  • Salem and Hope Creek share one OpenStreetMap record, as do the Three Mile Island and Indian Point units.

Limits

  • It excludes research reactors and Department of Energy sites.
  • Being on the NRC list does not show that a unit is generating power today.
  • Operator names are as the NRC page lists them, and the two sources can lag real-world changes.
  • The NRC is the authority on any site's status.
